The Balinese is a semi-longhaired variant of the Siamese breed. Its coat is of medium length, and very silky and fine.
The Balinese are found in the four solid point colors associated with the Siamese breed (seal, blue, chocolate and lilac point). See Javanese for other colors, such as red point, cream point, lynx (tabby) point, and tortie point.
Although longhaired Siamese kittens appeared in some litters, it was not until the mid-1950s that longhaired cats of Siamese type and coloration were actively bred. The breed was first accepted for championship status in 1961 by CFF.
Like its parent breed, the Siamese, the Balinese is an active, very affectionate, talkative, and inquisitive breed. It likes to get underfoot and be part of everything its owner does. There is no job that two hands can do that a Balinese will think two hands and four paws cannot do better.
Some breeders work with a more traditional, round-headed and heavier-bodied variety, based on the Traditional or Applehead Siamese. They are available in the same colors and have a similar personality to the show-style Balinese.
